스튜디오 도감이 설치작업 ‘Natural Relic and Artificial Witness: A Tale of the Retreating Rhone Glacier And the Hotel Belvédère’을 2021 서울 도시건축 비엔날레 도시전(2021 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism ‘Cities’ Exhibition)에 전시하였습니다.

이 프로젝트는 론 빙하와 벨베데레 호텔의 현재와 미래 상태를 보여주는 모델로 이루어져 있으며 빠르게 변화하는 지형의 위기와 건축 환경에 미치는 그 잠재적 영향을 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다. 스위스 알프스 지역에 있는 가장 오래된 빙하 중 하나인 론 빙하는 기후 변화로 인해 100년 후에는 사라질 것이다. 론 빙하 후미에 위치한 벨베데레 호텔은 1882년부터 탐험가들에게 가장 유명한 목적지였으나, 빙하가 감소하면서 2015년에 문을 닫았다. 이 둘은 자연과 건축 환경이 한데 엮여 있는 관계성을 가장 명백히 보여주는 예다. 100년 후 사라질 론 빙하는 인류세 시대의 새로운 유물이 될 것이며 벨베데레 호텔은 문을 닫은 동안 이 풍경 변화의 목격자가 될 것이다.

Obergoms
The installation shows the current and the future state of the Rhone glacier and the Hotel Belvédère and aims to reveal the urgency of the fast-changing landscape and the potential impact on the built environment. The Rhone glacier, one of the oldest glaciers in the Swiss Alps, will disappear in 100 years due to climate change. The Hotel Belvédère, located at the tongue of the Rhone glacier, had been a famous destination for adventurers since 1882; however, it closed its doors in 2015 as the glacier receded. This duo is a clear example that shows the intertwined relationship between the natural and built environments. Disappearing in 100 years, the Rhone glacier will become a new type of relic in the Anthropocene era and the Hotel Belvédère will become a witness to the landscape change.
